Monitoring

The main focus of the monitoring setup is that we need to be able to hear everything that's in the program - complete with extended low frequency response. Our rooms and our monitoring systems are designed to accomplish just that. More was spent in the design and construction of our monitors and their environment than most of our clients spend on their entire range of recording equipment!

For recording engineers, it's common to work in a variety of different studio environments and therefore on a variety of different monitors. It's also common to compare the sound on big, medium, and small speakers. In mastering however, in order to get the best results, we have to know the monitors in a specific room thoroughly and understand how the sound will translate to other environments.

The monitoring configuration in our two rooms is slightly different. The Camelia Room is surround capable and features a pair of speakers for stereo monitoring that were custom built by Alon Wolf. Monitoring of the other four channels is provided by the Meyer HD-1s, augmented by Bag End ELF subwoofers. The Magnolia Room also features Meyer HD-1 monitors, in this case augmented by Revel subwoofers. Both rooms are set up for surround monitoring.
