| Introduction to DVD-Video |
Our DVD services include content creation, video editing, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and Dolby 5.1 encoding, authoring (navigation/menu design), testing, DLT transfer and one-off DVD disc production.
At Paul Stubblebine Mastering our main area of interest is the art and business of making music. With the introduction and subsequent phenominal growth of the DVD format this is an exciting time for engineers, producers, and artists. Within the DVD Video specification it is possible to release titles with both great looking video and great sounding music in stereo and/or six channel surround.
Imagine your music complete with music videos, live concert shots using multi-camera angles, lyrics, interviews, biographical information, games, live links to related web sites, posters, and anything else that can be digitized. The result represents a huge step forward from the CD format and is a much more interesting and engaging experience for the consumer.
The DVD Video spec also allows for high resolution 96kHz/24bit audio (stereo only). If you haven't yet experienced music recorded and mixed at high resolution, we strongly suggest that you try to do so (give us a call!). The results when played back on a good system are amazing. The bandwidth required for hi res audio generally will not allow the simultaneous playback of video, so the visual element for this kind of disc is usually still images.
The process of planning your project, assembling the audio, graphics, and video content and adding navigation and interactivity is covered in the section entitled "
Project Planning". There is great flexibility in the way titles can be authored ranging from simple functionality to quite complex interactivity . This is a relatively new medium and therefore there are many possibilities for true innovation.
